Hollywood Comes to the Village- Powers

March 10, 2015

To date, more than 700 film and television projects have been shot in Georgia and that number is growing. It is not uncommon to see Hollywood film stars and production teams roaming our city streets, and with renovations complete- Atlanta Tech Village has been fielding more and more location requests. Most are turned down, but sometimes we get one that our members are interested in, is not too disruptive, and just looks like plain old fun.One of these is Powers, an edgy dramatic series that evolved from a 20+ year old MARVEL comic book series. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?

Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the brave people in charge of protecting humans like us and keeping the peace. It is gritty, dark, and well done. Sony's budget is said to be comparable to most primetime cable series- in the neighborhood of $2 million per episode. You can watch the trailer here. Looks pretty good, right?Ten one hour long episodes have been filmed, but keep an eye out for Episode 7 which features scenes shot in our Village 2nd floor coworking area and a restaurant scene shot on our rooftop patio. In addition to 4 Villagers scoring scenes as extras, Villagers Dan Smigrod from We Get Around helped score the location with his 3D shooting skills and spent time with the production crew, Emma Loggins from FanBolt conducted interviews with the cast, and Farrago Comics even had some of the original comics on hand.Check out some photos of the filming below and stay tuned for the series premier tonight! As you watch, you just may see some placed and people that you know. And yes, we even got a personal shout out from the amazing Powers star Logan Browning. She's the best.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCakXxwZoFQ&feature=youtu.be
