Your Next 2,000 Hours

March 18, 2013

In the next calendar year, you will spend more than 2,000 hours on one thing- your work. That’s a pretty huge time commitment considering that our time on this earth is finite. Shouldn’t you thoughtfully consider the environment, people and mission associated with where you spend that time?

A good friend of mine recently accepted a high paying and well respected marketing position with a sports company. It seemed an enviable opportunity, until he began to work and found that he was required to clock in and out for his work day and his lunch breaks. He literally inserts his hand into a machine that reads his identity and stores his work hours. For someone who is driven, energetic and creative, this is a soul crushing system.

As we give tours in the Village, some folks are surprised by the Razor scooters, free lunch Fridays, ping pong tables and comfortable seating. But it’s more than a fun factor, these things help to create a unique environment that encourages community, creativity and retention. As our founder David Cummings often teaches, corporate culture is one of the few things we can control. You want to recruit the best talent? Choose an awesome environment that allows folks to be their best and to be inspired by the people around them.At the Village, we want you to invest those 2,000+ hours each year in an environment that is positive and supporting. No time clocks here, just a place where you and your team want to be.
