Celebrating MLK During a Pandemic

January 15, 2021

With so many companies giving their team the day off on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we wanted to put together a list of ways to spend the day. How are you celebrating his life and legacy this year? Whether you usually go to his home or visit his tomb, there are ways to still celebrate in 2021 and not expose yourself to COVID.

Here are a few of our favorite ways:

Atlanta History Center

You can explore the legacy of the great civil rights leader from home. Use this link to see the program contents, including live talks that you must register for.

Ebenezer Baptist Church

The Ebenezer Baptist Church service will take place virtually this year. In 2021, the service will take place without an audience in attendance, starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 18th, service on FOX5Atanta. The service will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony.

Center for Civil and Human Rights

They have timed ticketing if you are feeling brave but you can also take a virtual tour of the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Get Take Out From a Black Owned Business

Not going to restaurants? Good! But you can still get takeout from one of Atlanta's best restaurants and support a Black business owner. Check out this awesome list of restaurants.

Watch a Film or Documentary about Civil Rights

Visit a National Park for FREE

Social distancing is easy when you're in a National Park. For the National Parks closest to Atlanta, click here.

Listen to his I Have a Dream speech

You can listen to Dr. King's entire I Have a Dream speech on this podcast. If you're looking for other podcasts to listen to, here is a great list of podcasts about the life of MLK Jr.

We hope that you can safely celebrate all the Dr. King did during his life this weekend. And remember "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
