About the Facilitator

James Africano is the Co-Founder of SBIR Advisors, a consulting firm that assists startups in capturing U.S. defense contracts. He is also the Founder and Managing Partner of Regolith Ventures, a fund that invests in U.S. early-stage companies with dual-use technologies, spanning both commercial and defense applications. Additionally, James serves as a startup advisor, having played a pivotal role in helping more than 200 companies scale and commercialize their technology in both commercial and defense sectors, resulting in over $500 million in realized revenue.

Prior to his current roles, James dedicated eight years to serving as an active duty contracting officer in the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Special Operations Command. During this tenure, he managed an impressive portfolio of innovation contract assets valued at over $3.2 billion. Notably, in his final duty assignment, he was the Chief of Space Warfare and Control contracts at Los Angeles Air Force Base.
