Period.If you’re not an influencer, a mommy blogger, or a handmade jewelry artisan you may have just rolled your eyes and are “this close” to clicking away, but I urge you to stick with me for just a few minutes while I make my case. Instagram turns 10 years old this October and currently has 1 billion monthly active users. Yep. You read that right. Those users spend an average of 53 minutes a day on the platform and 90% of those accounts follow a business. I hope I have your attention now.

“So, what happens when a company outgrows the Village?” This may be one of the most frequently asked questions on a Village tour and the answer is definitely the most exciting – graduation!Graduation is the ultimate achievement as a Villager. There comes a point when a startup begins to outgrow our space and isn’t as reliant on our resources. When this time comes for a Village company, we ask them to spread their wings and fly by throwing them a big party...and kicking them out!Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating Engaged Media as they leave us to continue their journey. Engaged Media Founder, Hoss Sooudi, joined the Village in January of 2016. In the three years they were in Atlanta Tech Village, they grew to a team of 20+, got on the monument sign, and were acquired TWICE, most recently by WebMD.

Since the beginning, we’ve showcased more than 350 startups, supporting them in their journey to success. ATLSV alums have scored investors, multiple funding rounds, acquisitions and incredible hires, and we hope we had a little something to do with that.And after seven and a half years, we’re ready to shake things up a bit!Starting with our January event, ATLSV will be moving from a primarily monthly format to every other month. This will give our presenters more time to truly polish up their pitches, and provide stronger value for our attendees.

Recently, Karen Houghton at the ATV told me I was a subject matter expert in “smarketing” after I led a workshop for the It Takes a Village cohort on marketing and sales alignment.After the workshop, Villager Tori Madison, the Founder of My Recovery, sent over a list of questions about marketing for early-stage companies.
