Buckhead's PATH400 Ribbon Cutting- Transforming Atlanta

January 8, 2015

We are seeing a transformation of Atlanta into a greener and more connected city, and the district of Buckhead (where the Village calls home) is keeping pace. With the opening of the Buckhead Station, MARTA saw a 20% increase in station entries. Then the pedestrian bridge added this summer made the trek from the Village to the new station less than a 5 minute walk.PATH400 is another part of this movement and it is also right in our backyard. The PATH400 Greenway Trail will be the spine of Buckhead’s Trails and Greenways Subsystem, connecting parks, trails, schools and neighborhoods to the urban core of Buckhead and ultimately to the Atlanta BeltLine. The trail is 5.2 miles long – extending from a historic cemetery site and trailhead off Loridans Drive south to the Atlanta BeltLine’s Peachtree Creek spur trail. The trail will wind through the North Buckhead, Peachtree Park and Lindmont LaVista neighborhoods, providing an alternate mode of transportation and recreational activity. The trail will be a paved, 10- to 14-foot-wide multi-use path suitable for cyclists, skaters, walkers and runners. With nearly 34 acres of green space added this year, Livable Buckhead and Buckhead CID are making a concerted effort with rezoning, trails, wider sidewalks, and more green space to appeal to millennials and make an investment in the future of one of the largest business districts in Atlanta. And we must say, it is working! The Village is proud to partner with them to host the celebration of the official opening of the first segment of PATH400 that lines Lenox Road this Friday, January 9th at 10:30am.Please join us in the Village event space for light refreshments and remarks from Keith Golden, Georgia Dept. of Transportation Commissioner, and Doug Hooker, Atlanta Regional Commission Director. The ribbon cutting ceremony will follow immediately and will take place in front of the new signature "BUCKHEAD" wall right across from the Village.
