Meeting Before Membership

July 23, 2013

We often talk about our core values (be nice, dream big, pay it forward, work hard/play hard), creating a positive corporate culture, and building relationships at Atlanta Tech Village. Coworking and high density space means we are a tight knit community so it becomes paramount that each member is a good culture fit.The question then becomes, how do we determine a good culture fit? While it’s not a perfect science, it is fairly simple- we meet you in person before membership is extended. You can’t apply for membership online, and you can’t just send an email to sign up. We require a face to face meeting and the best way to do this is to sign up for a tour. Attending a tour requires some effort for the potential member which is our first screening. Tours give you information about our values, community, physical space, vision and membership, as well as give us an opportunity to get to know more about the potential member, their company, and their dream for their startup.Of course, we also look at the work you are doing, company website, and consider your trajectory. But most of all, we want you to be a  good culture fit. Most folks who aren’t that nice, don’t like being told they need to “be nice.” People that already resonate with our core values tend to gravitate towards us because they see them as attractive qualities. This doesn’t mean everyone here is alike – we have all sorts of demographics in our community. It does mean that you align with our mission and can contribute to our four core values. And for us, the best way to start this process is by meeting you before extending membership.
